I am so excited for today’s post! We are going to talk with Lynnelle Lynch, president of the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation. This foundation is designed in honoring and celebrating beauty and wellness careers that integrate creativity, entrepreneurship and a lifelong commitment to mentoring the nextgen through education.

This foundation has started a wonderful campaign called “Shout Your Beauty.” Through this campaign, Pivot Point International will donate $1 to the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation, up to $10,000 for every selfie that includes the hashtag “ShoutYourBeauty” or “BeautyChangesLives” running from now until August 8, 2016. Isn’t that cool? I can’t wait to share my selfie.

Alright, let’s jump into the interview with Lynnelle Lynch!

  1. What inspired you to start Shout Your Beauty?

The generosity of those who work in the beauty and wellness industry – hairstylists, beauty educators, nail professionals, estheticians and product manufacturers – is not only inspiring, but empowering to the next generation of beauty professionals.

SHOUT YOUR BEAUTY! is an initiative the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation that invites individuals to celebrate the diversity of beauty today. From personal care product manufacturers and spokesmodels to beauty professionals and the clients they serve, the interpretation of beauty today is more inclusive than ever before. And social media provides a platform for individuals to celebrate this diversity and define what beauty means at the individual level.

As we launch the movement, all posts with the #SHOUTYOURBEAUTY AND #BEAUTYCHANGESLIVES  hashtags will result in a $1 donation – up to $10,000 – generously funded by Pivot Point International. And these scholarships will help the next generation of beauty and wellness professionals pursue their career calling.

  1. How many scholarships have you given away since the launch of SHOUT YOUR BEAUTY!?

We’re delighted to have funded 250 scholarships since 2012 for students aspiring to become hairstylists, estheticians, nail professionals, barbers and massage therapists. In February, we launched our first makeup artistry scholarship. In addition to funding scholarships for new professionals, the Vidal Sassoon Professional Beauty Education Scholarship and Leo Passage Endowment Fund programs offered by Beauty Changes Lives offer scholarships for licensed professionals.

3. Can you tell us a story or two about some of the recipients of these scholarships?

There are so many inspiring stories! In addition to scholarships, the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation offers some amazing mentorship opportunities. One winner spent a day working with celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson as he worked on an editorial photo shoot. A nail mentorship winner worked alongside CND co-founder Jan Arnold and yet another winner spent a day in the Washington D.C. salon of Johnny Wright, hairstylist to First Lady Michelle Obama! And from a scholarship perspective, winners have been able to use their education to transition to a career they always dreamed of pursuing but lacked the financial support to pursue. Our partners in the trade media have generously profiled these students’ successes providing incredible exposure for scholarship winners while they are still in beauty school!

4. Tell us about the Beauty Changes Lives Experience. What does the event evening look like?

The evening will celebrate an industry icon and shine the spotlight on emerging talent. After a cocktail hour that takes in the Chicago skyline from Solider Field’s suite, a dinner honoring Howard Murad, M.D. will follow. Dr. Murad is the fourth recipient of the Beauty Changes Lives Legacy award that celebrates beauty and wellness leaders’ commitment to professional education. Previous attendees include Vidal Sassoon (presented posthumously), Leo Passage (presented posthumously) and actress and humanitarian Tippi Hedren.

Following the dinner, a runway fashion parade will bring together NEXTGEN artists as they “shout their beauty” with evocative hair and makeup designs in a dramatic presentation that challenges conventional definitions of beauty.

And throughout the evening, individuals can enjoy signature cocktails, dancing to one of Chicago’s hottest DJ’s and the industry’s most glamorous take on tailgating at “glam and go” stations. Proceeds from the event benefit the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation.

5. Can you share some of the more well-known supporters of SHOUT YOUR BEAUTY?

We’re thrilled to have some of the biggest names in the industry supporting the Beauty Changes Lives Experience. In addition to the support of Pivot Point and America’s Beauty Show by Cosmetologists Chicago, sponsors include Aquage, American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) Association of Skin Care Professionals (ASCP), Athena Cosmetics, Bellus Academy, CND, DevaCurl, Duane Morris, Great Clips, I-Spa, L’Oreal, Make-up Designory (MUD), Massage Envy, Mercury Media, OPM, Pravana, Premier Beauty Show, Revlon, Shark Fin, TIGI, Unilever, and Wella. Media sponsors include founding media partner Modern Salon along with American Salon, Beauty Launchpad, DaySpa, Estetica, Sophisticate’s Black Hair and Sophisticate’s Hairstyle Guide.

6. What are your future plans for this organization? What do you hope to see happen?

The beauty and wellness industry is growing and there is a robust demand for educated professionals to join the industry. By raising awareness of the rich and rewarding opportunities available to licensed professionals – and funding scholarships to support the next generation of professionals – we hope to support beauty and wellness careers through the gift of education. And we encourage you and all of your “She’s All Smiles” followers to SHOUT YOUR BEAUTY by posting a selfie with the hashtag #SHOUTYOURBEAUTY or #BEAUTYCHANGESLIVES!  And be sure to visit http://www.SHOUTYOURBEAUTY.com for information on Shout Your Beauty Day events running August 1 to 7, 2016
