I love sleeping in. To be honest, I’m a bit obsessed with a great night’s sleep with no set alarm in sight. I look forward to the weekends just for all the opportunities for shut eye!
Ok, that’s enough talk about sleep and how much I love it. Today we are going to discuss the wonders that an early morning can bring. I had never realized the possibilities before, until I landed a full time job and had less and less time to dedicate to hobbies. Waking up an hour or two earlier allows me to start my day off with things I enjoy doing. My typical morning begins with either a run on the treadmill or a pilates session. Getting the blood flowing is the perfect way to waken up the mind and body and will keep you energized for hours after your exercise session comes to an end. Once my sweat sesh comes to an end, I get cleaned up and ready for the work day.
For the next hour or so, I nurse a cup of coffee and hop on the computer to catch up on reading posts from a few of my favorite bloggers and websites (Ex. The Skinny Confidential, A Beautiful Mess, Cupcakes & Cashmere and The Everygirl. Highly recommend each of these!). Once I’m finished reading, I use the remainder of my time to catch up on my writing, whether it’s poetry, completing a journal entry, mapping out a blog post or working on my book (So excited to share this with you guys, hopefully it will be ready by the end of next year! More to come on that, so keep on the look out!). Then it’s time to head off to work!
I’ve noticed my energy levels are higher on the days that I go through this routine, when compared to the days I sleep in. I could spout off a long list of other benefits, but instead, I’m going to provide you with an outline of things you can do to help make the transition into being a bright-eyed morning person. Ready!? Let’s dive in:
- Power down an hour or two before bed. To help you fall asleep faster, put away your cell phone and other electronics. It’s easy to lose track of time when we’re scrolling through Instagram or the like. By putting your cell phone away at bedtime, it will help you go to bed earlier, making it easier to wake up in the morning.
- Embrace the day! Instead of dreading the morning sunrise, embrace the start of each new day. With the right attitude, waking up can be easy.
- Experiment with the location of your alarm. Place your alarm a good distance away from your bed. This will force you to physically get up and walk over to your alarm in order to turn it off. Once up, it is much easier to convince yourself to stay awake and start the day.
- Don’t snooze. With each press of the snooze button, waking up becomes more difficult. Try to avoid the snooze button at all costs and instead, convince yourself to jump out of bed.
- Let there be light. Drawing the curtains so light can enter your room, helps to wake up the body in a gradual and slow manner.
Following these tips will have you becoming a morning person in no time. Are you ready?
